Spurpunk

Spurpunk is a steampunk-inspired mobile tower defense game that combines strategic card play with automated towers to defend ghost towns from hordes of modified zombies. Players can choose from six types of unique towers and utilize up to 25 magical cards. The game features over 60 levels set in locations like Boot Hill, Death Valley, and Mayan Ruins, and has more than 27 types of modified zombie monsters, requiring players to adapt their strategies. Additional features include hidden hideouts that test players' skills, a general store offering sneaky trick weapons, and the ability to create steam-powered soldiers to block paths and clear obstructions.

In order to introduce the new hero system, I developed the first in-game hero prototype: Susie. Unlike other defenders that will die after their health depletes, Susie will respawn after being defeated by enemies. She also has 3 special abilities that can inflict a considerable amount of damage on enemies, which she will gradually unlock as she levels up. I also identified and resolved a critical bug that allowed players to obtain infinite currency. It was discovered that certain time stamps were not properly converted into UTC time, which caused the timer of gem chests to always set to 0. The bug was then quickly patched, preventing significant revenue losses and improving overall game balance.
